US gay rights pioneer Frank Kameny has died at his home in Washington at the age of 86.

US gay rights pioneer Frank Kameny has died at his home in Washington at the age of 86.

Kameny became a leader of the rights movement after he was fired from his job as a government astronomer in 1957 for being gay.
