Bear cub killed after it wanders into hardware store

A baby bear was killed by officials after she strolled into a hardware store in New Mexico and startled residents.

KOAT-TV reported that state Game and Fish officials killed the cub following her surprise visit to Record’s Hardware Store in Raton. It is not clear how she was killed.

A surveillance video caught the one-year-old bear running through a busy part of town in broad daylight and walking into the store by its main door. She then bolted out of the store and took refuge in a nearby backyard.

Game and Fish officials said the situation could have become dangerous, but no injuries were reported.

Game and Fish warden Clint Henson said officials killed the bear after determining the cub’s actions were “not good bear behaviour”.
