US Embassy in Kabul comes under rocket fire

The US embassy in Kabul has come under attack from rocket fire as gun battles sounded throughout the city centre and its diplomatic quarter.

Police said a large group of gunmen were firing from positions in a tall office building that is under construction near the embassy.

Heavy blasts and gunfire were heard throughout the Wazir Akbar Khan area, which is home to the American and other embassies.
