Burglar caught red-handed

A burglar has literally been caught red-handed.

Police looking for someone who had stolen a bottle of red hair dye discovered Edward Allen with red on his hands after knocking on his door, which was covered in stains of the same colour.

The 35-year-old man stole £115 worth of belongings including a pink mobile phone and curling spray during the burglary at a 21-year-old woman's home in Colchester, Essex.

Sentencing Allen to 15 months in jail, Judge Anthony Goldstaub said: "You've been caught red-handed."
