Couple sue Air Canada over not speaking in French

A couple have won £8,000 in damages because they were not spoken to in French on a flight.

Michel and Lynda Thibodeau - who both speak fluent English - successfully sued Air Canada after a steward spoke in English when bringing them a Sprite instead of the 7UP they had ordered.

The pair also said an announcement at the baggage carousel was not in French and they were not greeted in the language when they checked in for their flight, nor at the boarding gate, at the airport in Canadian capital Ottawa.

Michel originally sued the company for £350,000 for breaching Official Languages Act, which states the airline must provide services in both languages.
