Sheep detects cancer in woman

A British sheep has alerted a woman to cancer.

Alfie, who is normally well behaved, started headbutting his owner Emma Turner when she was trying to give him some medication, and when she went to have the resulting bruises checked out at the doctor it was revealed she had breast cancer.

The 41-year-old farm worker said: "The doctors and nurses said that if Alfie hadn’t done what he did, when he did it, I wouldn’t have found the lump for a few years, by which time it would have spread.

"Everyone at the hospital is convinced that Alfie saved my life.

"Alfie is normally really well behaved but that particular day he went nuts and it took three of us to hold him down."

Ms Turner is now set to undergo a mastectomy to remove the tumour after six sessions of chemotherapy over four months.

The five-year-old Cotswold sheep now has a Facebook group in his honour.
