Coca – Hola!
Workers in a remote Spanish town have claimed to be the real inventors of Coca-Cola.
The refreshing fizzy drink is acknowledged as having been created by a US pharmacist, but now Juan Jo Mica and others from the town of Ayelo in Spain have started to claim the world’s most famous drink brand was actually invented in their local liquor factory.
Juan Jo said: “My great-great uncle took his cola coca syrup to America in 1884 and won a prize at a fair in Philadelphia. The Americans tried it, liked it and two years later their soft drink, Coca-Cola, was born.”
Coca-Cola historian Phil Mooney denies the claims, saying the drink is wholly American and its secret recipe safe from harm.
