Germany's coalition government has decided to shut down all of the country's nuclear power plants by 2022.

The policy change has been prompted by Japan's post-earthquake nuclear disaster at the Fukushima plant in March.

Germany's seven oldest reactors, already taken off the grid pending safety inspections, will remain offline permanently.
