Authorities investigate after man beheads woman in Tenerife

An investigation is underway after a British woman was attacked and decapitated in a supermarket in Tenerife.

Witnesses say the attack on the woman in her 60s was "savage".

Reports name the suspect as Deyan Valentinov, who is believed to be a homeless Bulgarian man with a police record.

He is understood to have obtained a knife from inside the store in Los Cristianos, before the attack yesterday afternoon.

The British Foreign Office said the British consul has contacted the woman's family.
