Bravey award for battery hen Angel
A hen has received a bravery award for laying exceptionally large eggs in the UK.
Rescued battery hen Angel was given the Braveheart award by the Veterinary Hospital in Plymouth after she required surgery due to the immense strain.
Owner Lorraine Fox said she took Angel to the vets after she noticed the bird was having trouble laying and saw red tissue protruding under her tail.
She said: "Angel is one of six battery hens and the prettiest of the bunch, I didn't want to lose her. It was a worry at the beginning. I really didn't hold out a lot of hope."
Luckily the plucky creature pulled through the operation and is now ready to lay more eggs.
