Protests spread to port city in Syria
Security forces have surrounded a port city in Syria where protesters are gathering for another day of demonstrations against the country’s authoritarian regime.
Opposition figure Haitham al-Maleh said troops have set up checkpoints at the entrance of Banias.
Syria’s National Organisation for Human Rights said one person was wounded in Banias but it was not clear if he was shot by police.
Protests erupted in Syria three weeks ago and have been growing steadily every week.
Friday marked the single bloodiest day of the uprising, with 37 killed around the country.
