A British man is facing jail after pretending to kill his fiancee with an axe, in a bid to scare away nuisance teenagers.

John Powell, 28, chased a ketchup-smeared and screaming Lucy Walton, 27, with the weapon – terrifying adolescents who were in a car parked on a lay-by in Windermere, Northern England.

He has since been charged for possessing an axe in a public place and using behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

Lucy said: "We've had problems with youths on the lane. We'd seen that car in the past and called police but thought this time we’d scare them ourselves.

"I waved to them and I was laughing...I don't understand how they didn't realise it was a joke."
