Put oranges in Christmas stockings: Bishop

In the UK, a senior Church of England bishop is urging parents to put inexpensive gifts, like oranges, in children's Christmas stockings.

The Right Reverend Dr Alan Smith, Bishop of St Albans, says the message of "selfless" St Nicholas has been lost - in favour of "pester power" and materialism.

He believes Santa Claus has been "hijacked" into becoming "a Father Christmas of a thousand adverts".
