Argentine president dies after heart attack

Former Argentine President Nestor Kirchner died today after suffering heart attacks, state television said.

The political leader and husband of Argentina’s president Cristina Fernandez collapsed in the city of Calafate, where the couple were staying.

Kirchner was a likely candidate in next year’s presidential elections as well as being the head of a union of South American nations, a congressman and leader of the Peronist party.
