A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck today in the Pacific Ocean off southern Japan, but there were no reports of damage or injury.

A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck today in the Pacific Ocean off southern Japan, but there were no reports of damage or injury.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck at 10:28pm (1:28pm Irish time), 200 miles south- west of Naha on Okinawa island at a depth of 22 miles.

The epicentre is around the Ryukyu Islands.

The Japan Meteorological Agency issued an alert for a mild tsunami for nearby islands, but lifted it 45 minutes later.
