Iran's missing nuclear scientist returns home

The missing Iranian nuclear scientist who claimed he was kidnapped by Americans was on his way home to Tehran today.

Shahram Amiri, who turned up in Pakistan’s embassy in Washington, was flying home via a third country.

He is expected to arrive early tomorrow in Tehran after a stopover in Qatar.

Iran has claimed that Amiri, who disappeared while on a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia in 2009, was abducted by American agents.

The US denies the claim.

Amiri’s case could embarrass American efforts to gather intelligence on Tehran’s suspected nuclear weapons programme.
