'Dr Death' surgeon jailed for seven years

A surgeon dubbed “Dr Death” in Australia for a string of botched operations was sentenced today to seven years in prison for killing three patients and causing permanent harm to another.

Indian-born US citizen Jayant Patel, 60, was convicted by a jury on Tuesday of three counts of manslaughter and one of causing grievous bodily harm while he was a surgeon at a hospital in Queensland state from 2003 and 2005.
