Indirect peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians are underway today after months of diplomacy by Washington's special Middle East envoy.

The peace process has been on pause for 17 months.

Yesterday the Palestine Liberation Organisation gave its backing to a renewal of indirect talks with Israel.
