Indirect Mideast peace talks underway

Indirect peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians are underway today after months of diplomacy by Washington's special Middle East envoy.

There will be no direct contact between the two parties - but views will be exchanged via a US envoy.

The peace process has been on pause for 17 months.

Yesterday the Palestine Liberation Organisation gave its backing to a renewal of indirect talks with Israel.
