Brown offers to hold talks with Clegg

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown today offered to hold talks with Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg on the formation of a new government, if his discussions with David Cameron fail to reach an agreement.

Speaking on the steps of No 10, Mr Brown said he believed discussions on a “fairer voting system” were “essential” and he underlined his commitment to putting proposals for reform to the country in a referendum.
