A bicycle bomb killed 13 people in Afghanistan today as they gathered to get free vegetable seeds as part of a British drive to discourage opium poppy growing.

Forty-five people, including eight children, were wounded in the blast, in the Nahr-e-Sarraj district north of Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province.
