Madoff attacked in jail

It has been reported that the disgraced Wall Street financier Bernard Madoff has been assaulted in prison.

It' is said the 71-year-old hospitalised late last week and treated for facial fractures, broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

A spokesperson for the US Federal Bureau of Prisons has declined to comment on the report.

Madoff is serving a 150-year sentence at a prison in North Carolina after pleading guilty to a $65bn fraud.
