Hundreds of police in Iran have been deployed around Tehran University to prevent protests against President Ahmadinejad.

It is the annual Students Day which commemorates the killing of three students in 1953 by the Shah's forces.

But the authorities fear the event could be used by opposition supporters to demonstrate against Ahmadinejad who they claim won June's election in a rigged poll .
