US Senate to hold first vote on healthcare reforms

The US Senate will hold an initial vote on health care reforms today in a move that will test appetite for proposals that could extend medical coverage and slash insurance costs.

The key procedural ballot will determine if majority leader Harry Reid’s estimated $848bn (€570bn) bill will go on to be formally debated in the US’s upper house.
