India: Rescuers fight to reach boy down well
Rescuers were today trying to reach a four-year-old boy stuck in a 150-ft well in western India by manually digging a pit next to it.
The boy, known only as Sahil, fell into the well in a village in Rajasthan on Monday while playing with his sister.
Using machines, rescuers dug nearly 75-80ft over the past two days and began to dig manually today.
It is hoped that the work will be completed soon so a connecting tunnel can be built to pull the boy out, the Indian newspaper Deccan Herald quoted a member of the rescue operation Sanjeev Sankhla saying.
The boy is reportedly not showing any movement, but oxygen is continuously being pumped into the well in Jagatpura and medical experts are on site.
Villagers are praying for his safety.
