Couple 'kill seven family members who objected to marriage'
Police in India have arrested a young couple for allegedly killing seven family members by poisoning and strangling them for objecting to a same-clan marriage.
Anil Kumar Rao, senior superintendent of police, told television news channel CNN-IBN today that the arrests were made after the lovers confessed to their crime committed in Kabool Pur, a village nearly 60 miles north west of the Indian capital, New Delhi.
Mr Rao said the couple told police that they were in love and wanted to get married, but the girl's family opposed their relationship because they belonged to the same sub-caste.
Indian weddings are guided by strict social codes and a complex caste system.
