Aquino's son enters presidential race
The son of the late former Philippine leader Corazon “Cory” Aquino said he will run for president in next year’s elections to continue the legacy of his mother, the country’s democracy figurehead.
Opposition Senator Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III declared his presidential candidacy today a week after his Liberal Party chief Manuel Roxas II abandoned his own campaign.
Mr Aquino said he wants to make democracy work not only for the rich but for everybody.
President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who is not allowed to seek re-election, is scheduled to step down in June 2010.
