Jewish centre gunman 'renounces racism'

A white supremacist who shot dead a postman and wounded five people at a Jewish community centre says he has renounced his racist views.

In a letter to a Los Angeles Daily News reporter, Buford Furrow said he regretted the pain he had caused.

Furrow, who is serving a life sentence with no chance of parole for the 1999 attack, described himself as a “model inmate who has shunned criminal activity”.

He said he had thrown away his neo-Nazi literature and now believed “a life based on hate is no life at all”.

Furrow wounded three children, a teenager and an adult at a the community centre in Granada Hills, Los Angeles. He later killed postman Joseph Ileto.
