Honduras reconciliation pledge

Honduras’ interim president Roberto Micheletti said the country was embarking on a new effort to overcome diplomatic isolation after the June 28 coup.

Mr Micheletti promised reconciliation among Hondurans, but clashes between police and supporters of ousted President Manuel Zelaya have grown more acute.

Mr Micheletti spoke at a ceremony in which the country’s military reservists expressed their support for the actions of his interim government.

The military rushed Mr Zelaya out of the country aboard a plane after he ignored congress and the courts in a bid to hold a referendum on reforming the constitution.
