Pregnant UK mother vows to replace children taken into care

An English mother who told social workers that every time they took a child from her she would have another one has been accused of "irresponsible behaviour".

An English mother who told social workers that every time they took a child from her she would have another one has been accused of "irresponsible behaviour".

The TaxPayers' Alliance also said Theresa Winters, from Luton, England, who has 13 children and is pregnant with a 14th, had a "disgraceful attitude".

The 36-year-old lives with her partner Toney Housden, also 36, in a one-bedroom council flat in the town and also receive benefits. Her next child is due in November.

All of her children, including a son and daughter with a previous partner, have been adopted, apart from one son who is in foster care.

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "This is an appalling case where someone is selfishly inflicting a large emotional and financial cost.

"The welfare state rightly provides a safety net for those who need help, but this woman is abusing it by expecting taxpayers to bear the burden of her irresponsible behaviour.

"As well as the disgraceful attitude she seems to have to her children, she is landing other families with a massive bill which they can ill afford."

Luton Borough Council said they could not comment on the case, adding that all final decisions to take children in to care were made by the courts.

However, Ms Winters is defiant in her decision to keep having children until social workers allow her to keep one. She told the Sun: "We are being treated like murderers. If this one is taken away from me I will try for another one.

"I don't want to because of my health. But we so desperately want to be a little family. I want them to give us a chance. If we can't cope I will be the first to admit that and we will never try for children again. But I really think we can do it this time."
