US traffic congestion drops as economy suffers

Worsening economic conditions have given US drivers and environmentalists slight cause for cheer, with fewer cars on the road as a result.

Latest figures from the Texas Transportation Institute found that as the downturn began to hit and oil prices rose, rush-hour congestion began to ebb with less hours being wasted stuck in traffic.
