Nepal's prime minister resigns

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal announced his resignation on national television today after the president overturned his decision to fire the army chief.

Dahal made the announcement after meeting with his party leaders and Cabinet.

Dahal sacked army chief Rookmangud Katawal on Sunday but President Ram Baran Yadav rejected the decision and ordered Katawal to return to work in a statement late last night.
