30 missing in Peru mudslide
Up to 30 people were missing today after a mudslide in the northern highlands of Peru, civil defence officials said.
Special operations co-ordinator Walter Tapia said the mudslide buried 25 homes in the towns of Chamanacucho and Aricapampa in La Libertad province early this morning.
He said between 20 and 30 people were missing, feared dead.
The region has been battered by heavy rains.
Lima’s RPP radio reported that Civil Defence and Health Ministry officials were travelling to the region to support aid efforts.
