French football fans killed by train
A commuter train struck and killed two football fans, including a 10-year-old boy, as they walked along the tracks after a match at Paris’ Stade de France, French officials said today.
Eleven others have been injured.
Officials said that the visiting group of Lille supporters apparently took a shortcut along the tracks after last night’s game to get to their bus to return to the northern city.
The oncoming train was unable to stop in time.
The French train authority, SNCF, announced the deaths today.
Regional SNCF chief Jean-Pierre Frandou has told France-Info radio that a boy of 10 was killed.
Rescue officials said three people were seriously injured.
The accident happened after Lille defeated Lyon 2-0.
