Sarkozy defends EU pledge on commissioners

French President Nicolas Sarkozy has defended his support for the plan to retain the situation where each EU state nominates a member of the European Commission.

The move has been agreed as part of efforts to overturn Ireland’s rejection of the Lisbon Treaty last June.
