Spanish authorities say a gas explosion at a residential building has left at least 25 people injured outside Barcelona.

Spanish authorities say a gas explosion at a residential building has left at least 25 people injured outside Barcelona.

The Catalonia regional government says the blast occurred around 3am local time today in Gava.

At least 17 people are seriously injured, including four children.

Firefighters are searching for more possible victims. It is unclear how many people were in the building at the time of the blast. The three-storey building was seriously damaged.

The Catalonia government says in a statement 50 people were evacuated from nearby buildings.

It was not immediately known what caused the gas to explode.
