Former German terror leader to be freed

The former leader of Germany’s terrorist Red Army Faction group will be freed from prison in January after serving the minimum 26 years of a life sentence for multiple murders, a German court ruled today.

The Stuttgart state court said 56-year-old Christian Klar will remain on probation for five years from his January 3 release date.

Klar was convicted of involvement in the murders of nine people for the leftist group, including West Germany’s top prosecutor in 1977, Siegfried Buback.

A court spokeswoman said it ruled that there were no grounds to keep Klar in custody any longer.
