Pakistan’s foreign minister said China has signed an agreement with the energy-starved Islamic nation to help it build two more nuclear power plants.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the agreement was among 12 accords which were signed during Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to Beijing.

China has already helped Pakistan build a nuclear power plant about 125 miles south-west of the capital, Islamabad.

Work on a second nuclear plant is in progress and is expected to be completed in 2011.

Mr Qureshi said Pakistan will get an additional 680 megawatts of electricity after the completion of the two additional plants.
