Six killed in Ukraine mine blast

A methane blast at a coal mine in eastern Ukraine has killed six miners, according to emergency officials.

The Emergency Situations Ministry says that blast hit the Duvanna mine in the eastern Luhansk region shortly after midnight last night.

The blast at a depth of 1,700 feet caused no fire and the remaining 113 workers were safely evacuated to the surface.

Ukraine has one of the world’s most dangerous coal mines.

More than 100 miners were killed at a mine in the eastern city of Donetsk in November in the deadliest explosion in the country’s post-Soviet history.
