Brown faces growing clamour for leadership election

Gordon Brown was today facing a growing clamour from his own MPs for a leadership election, with a Labour vice chairman urging a “multiplicity” of senior figures to stand against him.

Joan Ryan, a former minister, insisted that Labour’s “direction and leadership” was being debated at “all levels” of the party and it was time for such talk to be aired in the open.
