Democrats gather to anoint Obama for president

Democrats will gather in Colorado today to formally nominate Barack Obama as their candidate for US president.

But Mr Obama’s Republican opponent John McCain was allowing no let-up, sniping away with new ads to stir discord over the Illinois senator’s choice of Senator Joe Biden as his running mate.
