Arms and leg of dismembered British girl found

Brazilian authorities said today that they have recovered the forearms and left leg of a British teenager who was dismembered along the banks of a remote river near the central city of Goiania.

A labourer walking in the area found the leg yesterday, a week after the torso of 17-year-old Cara Marie Burke was discovered in a suitcase near a different river.

Police searching in the same area later found her forearms.

Police inspector Carlos Raimundo Batista said today that authorities were confident the leg was Cara’s.

Police said 20-year-old Mohammed D’Ali Carvalho dos Santos has confessed that he dumped Cara’s head and limbs in the river. Officers said Santos killed the teenager because she threatened to tell his family that he was addicted to cocaine and dealing the drug.
