15 Found dead on migrant boat drifting off Spain

Fifteen African migrants died on a boat crossing to Spain.

The migrants, adrift on a small, overcrowded boat, threw the bodies – including children – overboard.

A Maritime Rescue official said a Spanish patrol boat rescued 33 people and recovered one body from the boat off the coast of southern Almeria province last night.

Survivors told police they had been adrift for several days and as children aboard the boat died, their bodies were thrown into the sea.

Some of the survivors were so weak they could not stand.

Nine children reportedly died – ranging in age from one to four – and the rest of the deaths were adults.
