Kenya mob burns 'witches and wizards' to death

A mob burned to death 11 people suspected of being witches and wizards in western Kenya, officials said today.

Deputy police spokesman Charles Owino said the mob hunted down the eight women and three men in two villages in the district of Kisii Central.

Mr Owino said most of the victims were between 70 and 90 years old. One victims was aged 40.

Senior administrator Njoroge Ndirangu said the mob used a list to hunt down people they suspected to be witches and wizards.

He added: “These people identified who is to be killed by accusing their victims of bewitching their sons and daughters.”
