Activist threatens action over kangaroo cull
An animal rights activist has threatened more “direct action” to stop Australian Defence Department officials from killing 400 kangaroos in Australia’s capital after two protesters attempted to disrupt the cull.
The cull which began Monday on an abandoned military site in suburban Canberra has attracted national and international media attention.
While it has been endorsed by government and some animal welfare leaders, it has divided Australians on the merits of such a public slaughter of an iconic animal that features in Australia’s coat of arms.
Wildlife Protection Association of Australia president Pat O’Brien said today he and fellow protesters planned to intervene if the killing continued.
