Senator Edward Kennedy, the lone surviving son in a famed political family who helped define national Democratic Party politics, is recovering in hospital today after suffering a seizure.

Mr Kennedy, 76, did not suffer a stroke and "is not in any immediate danger", said Dr Larry Ronan, the Massachusetts senator's primary care doctor.
