Ex-premier's son charged with murder bribe

The son of a former Bangladesh prime minister has been charged with taking a €1.9m bribe to cover up the murder of a businessman.

The country’s Anti-Corruption Commission said today formal charges have been filed against ex-premier Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman and former home minister Lutfozzaman Babar.

It said the two allegedly shared the bribe to save the son of a businessman who was the prime suspect in the 2007 murder of another businessman working in the same company.

A court will now examine the charges to decide if the two will stand trial.

The pair are already in jail facing several other corruption charges.
