Teen charged with Rhys Jones murder due in court

A teenage boy will appear in a UK court today charged with the murder of Rhys Jones.

Rhys, 11, was shot dead in Liverpool, on August 22 last year as he walked home from football training.

Today, the 17-year-old will appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court along with three other youths, aged 15, 16 and 17, who face charges of assisting an offender. The 16-year-old has also been charged with possession of a firearm.

None of the teenagers can be named for legal reasons.

Melvyn Coy, 24, and Gary Kayes, 25, both from Liverpool, will also appear charged with assisting an offender.

The six were charged yesterday, nearly eight months since the schoolboy was killed.

Last night, a number of people were bailed in relation to the investigation and a 20-year-old man was still being quizzed by detectives.
