Iran agrees new round of talks with US on Iraq

Iran said today it is willing to enter another round of talks with the US over Iraq’s security.

Iran and the US have held three rounds of ambassador-level talks in Baghdad since last May.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said that Iran will “continue the talks with necessary conditions.”

He said the US sent an official request for talks through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran because Washington and Tehran have no formal relations.

Mr Hosseini did not a give possible time for the next round of talks.

Washington accuses Iran of funnelling arms to extremist groups in Iraq, but Tehran denies that.
