Guinea: Freed energy workers back on boat

A group of 15 oil and gas workers have been freed after they were taken captive on a vessel off Africa, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said today. Nine of the captives were British.

The crew were held by authorities in Equatorial Guinea for about three weeks after being arrested at gunpoint for allegedly illegally straying in the country’s waters.

An FCO spokeswoman said: “The group has been released. They left the hotel where they were being held at 9pm yesterday and are now back on their vessel.”
