Pope denies Bin Laden claims

The Vatican today denounced Osama bin Laden’s accusation that the pope played a role in a worldwide campaign against Islam as “baseless.”

A spokesman said it was not surprising that bin Laden mentioned the pope in a new tape posted on a militant website.
